This talk explores methodological issues pertaining to the history of emotions and Islamic (Arabic) Tradition-based literature, including the literature of 'Religious Merits' and other pietistic or devotional genres.   

Nancy Khalek is Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Brown University and specializes in Late Antiquity and Classical Islam. She received her Ph.D. in history from Princeton University in 2006. Her first book is entitled Damascus after the Muslim Conquest: Text and Image in Early Islam.
